Putting on a backpack


Make sure that the pack is evenly filled without any excessive

	weight at the top, bottom, or one side.




1. 

	Stand normally with plenty of space around you

	Lift the pack by the strap at the top, up onto your left knee

	hoist the weight around to your back, putting your left arm through the left shoulder strap as you

		move it around to  your back

	Put your right arm through the right shoulder strap

	Close the waist strap properly

	Walk steadly taking care not to fall over sideways, backwards or forwards.



	Do not ever sit down with a backpack on. Do not put the pack on while sitting and try to stand.

		

2.
	reverse procedure when taking off, take the right arm out of the shoulder strap while still standing fully,

	rotate it around to the front and drop it from the knee to the ground.
